Review of Vortex Roleplay/Friendly Suggestions
Hi.
I have been an on and off player in the last month. A lot of people will not recognize me, but that's fine. Today, however, I was rather irritated at the lack of decency that I have seen in many servers, but not in this one.
Now, you might be thinking;
"Why the hell should I listen to this guy? He isn't active in our community, hasn't donated, and probably is a noob to roleplay!"
Well, fortunately for both of us, friend, I can provide some information about myself that hopefully does not appear to be confiding others or making myself seem important.
Despite my current account's number of hours in Garry's Mod, I should have a total of 1,020 hours played in Garry's Mod, and the majority of that being spent in Clockwork Half Life 2 Roleplay and other roleplay servers. I grew sick of DarkRP in two.
I started playing HL2RP back in the winter break of 2012, still in in a semi stunted stance. I was a horrible noob. I thought punchwhoring was the way to start a riot, and 'kill da kombine!'"...little did I know at first that I was completely wrong. First I learned how to actually roleplay...Then I learned how to fear roleplay..and soon enough I felt confident to apply to become a Metropolice Force unit. I succeded with flying colors, and began my giant trek on experiencing servers and seeing different aspects of roleplay. I soon came along one server during the summer of 2013, and went from an trial operator to an administrator in a few weeks, and a Senior Administrator a month. It was an easy groove to get in, but took dedication and empathy.
Five months later the server disbanded after one of the head administrators re-directing donation funds to his own acccount. We lost nearly five hundred dollars in donations, and a lot of us were abandoned. I've been hopping from server to server, looking for a place to continue to practice and develop my roleplay services. I don't tend to administrate that much, as it is hard to enjoy roleplay when you are interrupted every five minutes.
My total experience has been nearly two years. I consider my roleplay to be practically, if possible, perfect in appealing to those around me and providing detail and context that enriches our gameplay. But, however, I am restricted here in many points...here's why;
OOC
Whether or not the last few times I've gotten is just coincidental, I have not been able to use OOC chat. OOC chat, despite common misuse and misconception is actually a quite useful tool for players to communicate and ask questions among themselves if they are not aware how to do something, lightening the load of what administrators may have to deal with. High OOC times are understandable. No OOC, or denying it to players who aren't in the 'inner circle' is not.
Standard of Roleplay
What can be defined as standard of roleplay? In my opinion, it may just be...quality and patience for others in roleplay. Today I joined and was suddenly knocked around and threatened, and told in LOOC chat to 'hurry up' and 'omg he's writing a novel'. This, to me, is a lack of care for the standard of roleplay. Surely you want to see something better than, '/me look up and is scared and hide,'? But when you have the players sharing the common idea "Roleplay should be fast and this guy isn't going fast for us," then they are completely misunderstanding the point of what roleplay is all about. With that being said, I'd like to have a large text count for /me, and perhaps have players understand that with greater times comes greater roleplay.
Content
I had three-hundred and sixty-six downloads before I could join. 3-6-6. I can imagine that I will have to delete all of this later, in the reminder I will likely have to put in dedication in the server to actually be able to see and use this content. Whether or not you change this is up to you, but the smaller amount of content leaves less time for a possible player to join.
However--Let's review of what we have in the positives here;
- Unique map and content (even if it is rather hard on my computer)
- Diverse playerbase and dedicated one at that
- Customization within content
- Freedom to explore all areas of the map w/o being staff
Combined with the negatives...I give it...
A 5/10! I don't really know if I want to play here, honestly. I'd give it a chance if I heard change, but with units ignoring me when I want to roleplay, and lack of quality at this time, I will have to say a kind, 'No thanks,'.
Please remember that I write this in respect and hopes that the server might grow and learn from it's mistakes. I am not intending to insult the staff or players.
If you need me, here's my Steam profile. Shoot me a message. http://steamcommunity.com/id/Securitae/

Hi Securitae.
I'm sorry that you're experience wasn't the best.
I'll have to see about fixing some of the content downloads, possibly removing a bit of content.
Also, do you by any chance remember the names of the players who were rushing you to roleplay? Because I personally don't tolerate that kind of stuff, especially when they're rude about it.

Would also just like to mention that if some of the role-play isn't the greatest, (MPF), things are being sorted out and cracked down upon.

Yeah. One rogue unit named John and one of his other friends. I probably could remember his physdesc if I saw it again.
What was frustrating was I was sitting down near the beach (my character has been trying to catch a bird or two, maybe a crab with no avail..Rations aren't enough for me) I was about sit down and start roleplaying, when a SWARM of players in rebel uniforms and John the rogue unit started bounding over. I had to completely stop what I was about to begin and listen to the orders of John to get on the wall, asked questions that didn't make sense to me either in OOC or IC, "What are the combine about?" Then his friend started beating the shit out of me. I just played it off like Play to Lose, and let him get the hits on me whilst I'm practically shitting my pants in character because I'm afraid I'm about to die. Then I'm told to, "<:: Get out of here!"
So, I do as they say, and begin to perform...And they keep saying things that I can't read unless I go to the console, telling me to leave again, "<:: Now!". I roleplay walking away, but they block my path and suddenly apologize! I mean, jesus, thanks and all but unless these two have some sort of domestic violence syndrome that makes them just suddenly shift moods after they beat the snot out of some dude this was hard to roleplay with.
Thanks for replying. I hope didn't seem stingy when I wrote this..

I think the biggest thing here is that you might be judging the server on interactions with some people. Some people are not the best at everything. Some times these people are often the loudest. I think most units want to RP, not all of us are cunts right?

I agree-- Perhaps I was too quick to judge. Unfortunately other newcomers might not take that chance or see it from that perspective. I admit, that's how a lot of servers have been for me, with high downloads, map settings, and even what divisions the server has.
I do, however, stand by the belief that persons who are in a whitelisted/applicable faction should be reminded that they represent a rather large portion of the server, physically and roleplay wise. (going back to the judging idea) ...And that they should aspire to at least roleplay with newcomers, even if that is to mean flagging down.
I've had a Divisional unit a couple of times, but once there was a new player. The OOC chat was swamped with comments and stupid jokes, and units were ignoring him. I flagged down and just roleplayed being 'one of the new guys' with him. He had a ton of questions, and despite how much I wanted to participate in the event I knew that if I could get him hooked like I was then I would've brought another player into the world of Clockwork.
This guy went from "hey where do i meet the combine for my relocation ticket" to "P-Pardon me, but can you tell me where a metrocop is? I've just relocated from City Eighteen.."...It's so worth it. Fast forward two and a half weeks and he's already applied and whitelisted for the Civil Worker's Union. I haven't seen the bastard since but god damn his roleplay probably toppled mine. All he needed was just a helping hand.
Unfortunately, I understand what I may be saying is drifting in and out, but simply I would like to see a unit/malignants more willing to roleplay with newcomers, even if that does mean missing out on the action (and maybe being tolerant of those who take a while to type their /me 's).

Re: Review of Vortex Roleplay/Friendly Suggestions
I think you're correct on a lot of things, especially with the quality of roleplay. We get a lot of newbies, and the best thing to try and do is help them become better roleplayers. (it's a cycle, then they can help newer roleplayers as well.)
The reasons units might ignore you, because really, units aren't supposed to give two fucks about citizen's opinions and needs. The times when they do, they're being nice.
That put aside, the download issue, it's these WarZ consumables, which should workshop force-dl, not DL through FastDL. (I'll get around to fixing it when Sheeplie comes back.)
I understand where you're coming from about the 5/10... but then again...
We get floods of new players, and it's hard to identify which people are new and which aren't. (Unless you've RPed with them for a while.) It's hard to flag down to roleplay with the newcomers with so many of them. (That being, I'm not a CP, I'm a scientist who roleplays with everyone using my NodRP. /me nods.)
Personally, I love roleplaying with all sorts of people, newbies or not. If they happen to be new, I do try to help them out with their skills. Generally most players do that when roleplaying with newbies. (Maybe you're not around to see it?)
And if you don't, you probably should.

Re: Review of Vortex Roleplay/Friendly Suggestions
The general idea of "sitting on the beach" alone trying to catch a bird here and there does sound peacefull, it's a shame those guys interrupted it, let alone "apologize" after. Doesn't sound like very good roleplay to me. I mean, if your characters are assholes, make them assholes, don't suddenly change your mind, right?
Anyways, sorry about that, and I again apologize.
I hope that you'll have better luck in the future, whether it's with VG, or somewhere else.

I was at that occurrence, using my headstrong female rebel, she told them off, and forced them to stop being dicks, she forced them to apologize. Later that day she quit the group due to stupid decisions. I was surprised you didn't mention the kind female rebel, that wanted them to stop, I mean she did stop them from continuously beating your poor man.
