Make sure the cage floor is clean. Also, it's not healthy for rodents other than Gerbils to walk on a wire-mesh floor. Put some fabric og cardboard over it to prevent this in the future. It comes from collection of urine and fecal matter that causes the infection.

You want to soak the foot in a saline solution for 2-5 minutes a day. You should talk to your vet and get some antibiotics.

That sounds like every article I've read online. But what the heck does saline mean? And honestly -I cannot soak it 2 times in a day. I have a lot going on right now. Hes getting a vet visit on Friday. For now I'm keeping an eye on the swelling and the scab as well as checking his bedding to see if its wet at all anywhere.

That should clear up any confusion on what Saline is.

Saline = Saltwater solution. Makes sure the salt contains Iodine.

Just add it to the water until no more salt can be diluted. Then you have a saline solution.
