Sanity: The Story of Gavin Hyde(COMPLETE!)
...My hand, completely numbing, starts to slowly bleed across the sides where the nail punctures. The two thick streams sliding across my skin onto the table. My right hand, still on its binds, continues to struggle free. But, like before, with no luck. I turned my head, spitting in the direction of the man's voice. Somehow though, I could feel a crooked smile cross my lips. These times for me, as you will soon learn about, revolves around mistakes, being un-lucky, but with a happy ending...sorta. Not much of a fairy tale, but this story has it's beginning, middle, and....hrm...well the ending isn't here yet...so far anyway. As for a tease, well I guess the combine isn't exactly my greatest fear. It is the people that change because of them.

The ball bounces off of the concrete floor once, rising up back into his finger tips. Leo takes a step back, looking to the basket as I leap up and raise my right hand as high as possible, trying to block it. He lifts himself from the ground, hands pushing forward, with the ball rolling in a backwards motion away from us. We both land on the ground, watching as the ball makes its way and bounces on the rim twice....before falling to the side. Time to hustle.
I kick my feet on the ground from Leo, rushing to retrieve the ball, and am successful. Problem is, I didn't really have a good secure possession of the ball, so I dropped it when I turned back to the hoop. I try to run to it again, but Leo was closer, and he retrieves it. He looks back at the hoop, lifting himself up for another shot at the basket, as I try to intercept. This time I try as much as I am able to, to leap up, and am able to tip the ball in the air, with it flying above us. It bounces next to me as I grasp my fingers around it. This time it's my turn. So I lift up, pushing my arms forward, and rolling my fingers as the ball begins to do a backwards spiral to the hoop. It bounces on top of the rim, but makes it.
"Okay...I think we can stop now." Leo begins, panting as he spoke. "But it's a tie..." I merely protested. At the time, me being young, and very competitive, wanted an end to the game, rather than a draw. He then continues, panting pretty much as much as me "Exactly...it's a tie. It's what happens when we're put against each other.". I chuckle, nodding "I guess we should focus on the games against Erik and Joel more often." and he nods in response. We didn't know how to treat the outcome of this game except celebrate as if both of us won. Taking a couple cola bottles from Dad's secret cooler, that was our view of 'Having a cold one'.

My hand rests against the window, my eyes focused on the group of citizens against the wall. Civil Protection units patting them down and taking some belongings. It was obvious one of the citizens there was Leonard. He seemed extremely nervous, more than usual when dealing with the MPF dudes. I noticed that one of the officers made a pause when looking at something from Leo's pocket. The CP looked over at the other officers, showing them the small object, looked like a piece of paper. They kept looking at it, as if reading it over. And then, without a second thought, one of the CP's released his sidearm from his holster. And....the thunder of a gunshot I never really got used to...even though I've heard it often in times like these.
I freeze up, unsure of what to do...at all. Then, I came to my senses pretty quickly, and just ran down outside of our apartment, and rushing down the stairs, just shouting and cursing to myself in denial of the witnessing. Bursting out the front door of the complex, I looked over towards where it happened, and the bodies of all of them were being picked up, and put in a cart. The bodies were then taken away....I don't know where, but gone. I remember filling myself with tears, hiding back in the confines of....now 'my' apartment, for weeks, only going out to get food. But on that day of witnessing that, I couldn't...keep myself together in any way. I spent many nights and even some nights to this day just witnessing the same fate happen over..and over..and over. I can hear his screams...his pleas of help. But the strange thing is, at the time, I never heard him yell anything. The only remaining photo of him, I keep with me, at all times, just in case I feel alone. There's times even now where I will stop, and just think about how happy he is now...in a safer place than this re-living nightmare constantly revealing itself to be real, oh so real.

It was one of Leo's favorite activities. Parkour or whatever it was called. Even though initially I didn't think of the hobby as a good idea, watching him scale walls like it was nothing was a sight to see. Before, I used to just stay out in a park and watch him vault and climb up walls with good speed, immediately adapting to the ledges and window marks on some taller structures. Showing no fear of falling, no worry of a mishap, just moving fluently. It was something I envied, even though it was just stylish fleeing.
...2 weeks later...
"Remember Gavin, just focus on what you're going for, not how high up you are." Leo explains, as he points at this ledge that is about twice as tall as me. I won't lie, I was extremely nervous looking up at it, and back down at myself. Leonard notices this, and pats me on the shoulder "Just take a deep breath, and take your time. You need to be calm, and collective, and confident in your abilities." Basically I just do as he says. Taking a deep breath, close my eyes, and thought about how he did it. I can remember him briefly taking some steps against the wall, as if trying to run up it for a moment. His hands would immediately go for the ledge itself, and get a good grip on it, before he pulls himself up ontop of it. As long as I can mimic that, I think I'll do fine.
In-haling, exhaling slowly, just trying to keep myself calm. My feet dart off, as I begin to take a step up the wall, throwing my arms up to grab the ledge, and grunt as I keep pushing myself slowly up the ledge. Lifting my upper body completely, I bring my legs up and slide up to the top of the ledge, reaching down for Leo. He leaps up, taking two steps up the wall before grabbing my hand, as I pull him to me with a loud grunt. Don't remember him gaining weight. Once he arrives up top, we head over to the other side, getting a good view of the city. Leo takes a knee, gesturing his hand for me to come over.
"So...this is the Combine huh." I ask, and Leo nods. "Will it ever be the same, Brother?". He shrugs Hrm...at least he's honest. The dark blue weird looking structures overpower the old concrete and brick homes. If you took out the Combine towers and power plants, it'd look like an apocalypse. Handfuls of buildings reduced to rubble. A battleground being masked by foreign industry. Sounds like something we would do when occupying an enemy country. Leo turns to me, patting me on the shoulder "Don't worry about it Gavin, look, we can make the best out of this. C'mon.." as he stands up, running over, and leaping from the roof we are on to another. It wasn't like it was a great achievement, these buildings here are a bit close together. But, either way, I still followed true using as much energy I could on each jump just in case. We skipped a few roofs like hop scotch, until we were on our way home.
Leo stops again, and he also gestures me to him as well like before. Kneeling beside him, I glance down towards the street where he might be looking. Sure enough, the woman of his life, Alyssa, is walking in the streets. I turn over with a smirk, commenting "You usually stalk her like this?" He laughs a bit "Nonsense, I'm not THAT creepy." as I laughed in return "But you said you still are." I responded right away. He just shrugs, a bright smile on his face from when he was laughing "You do crazy things for love Gavin. And y'know, I've been meaning to help you 'get in the game' y'know. If you really expressed your true self to people...women will be in line for you." I just shake my head "Bullshit.." and give a weak chuckle. He then smacks me on the shoulder "No bullshit. Here I'll prove it, tomorrow, gonna introduce you to one of Alyssa's friends...Claire. She's a cute lonely girl right up your alley." Again, I just shake my head "Meh...if it makes you feel better, fine." as he lifts me up to stand, and waves his hand for me to follow him "C'mon, we should really head home." as I nod "Something I'll definitely agree on."
...5 years later...Revelation: Part II
I leap off, jumping onto the concrete of the next building, just a full on sprint for my life. Tears still running off my face flying behind me like wind. Another roof, then another. I stop as soon as I reach a brick-like rooftop. This must be her complex. I look downward, stomping my feet on the ground, before it gives way, collapsing as I fall through it on the hallway below. I grunt in pain as I lift myself up from my back, just keeping a hand behind me as I rush over to her door. 4D, that's right.. I bring my right hand that isn't on my back, and smack against the door many times "Alyssa! It's Gavin!".
The door flings open, and there she is, looking very confused "Gavin? Wha-what are you doing here what's wro-" I didn't have time, so I just went out and said it "Leo's gone...he was shot." as I rush into the apartment, shutting the door behind me. When I looked back at Alyssa, her hand was over her mouth, eyes widened. Her eyes shutting and shaking her head. She runs to the next room, I believe it was the bedroom, not too sure. Her wailing and sobbing heard as soon as her door is shut. Then, just as I was about to follow to comfort, her front door is knocked on furiously.
It was apparent it was Claire's voice when she yells "Alyssa? What's wrong open up! I heard a crash and there's a hole in the cei-" as I open the door. Claire, blue eyes bloodshot, blonde hair that was usually a bit wavy even though it was cut short, concern on her face turned into fear "Gavin? Why are you here? What's wrong with Alyssa?" she begins asking the questions. I end up having to say, and dare I say one more time "Leo's...he's gone. They killed him." as I wipe my eyes, trying to hide my tears but with no luck. Claire rushes over, bringing her arms around my waist, burrowing her face into my chest. I could feel her tears running against my shirt "Gav I...I don't....I'm sorry." she mumbles, choking up. I reach over, shutting the door again, and then bring my own arms around Claire, just silently holding onto her. Sniffling, I close my eyes, just tilting my head against hers, keeping my hold onto her tightly. Listening to the sob of Alyssa in another room, and Claire's in my arms. And though my back is in so much pain from me not telling her about my fall...I didn't care. There were other things on my mind than my immediate pain.
Sometimes today, I have the dream of running to the rooftops, hearing their sobs in my sleep as I keep running, leaping, and running, their cries echoing in my ears. Sometimes I hear the echo when I'm awake today. Though, it isn't as common as it was when I was still back at home. This new city seems to drown them out for the most part. Hrm...for the most part.

Eyes fluttering open, I know they are, but I still see only darkness. I feel upright, like I'm sitting on something. When I move to get up, something keeps me in my place. When I try to look at my hands, they seem to be stuck on something as well. Then, a beam of a bright light, flickers on above me. It is a like a lamp, only illuminating a table in front of me and most of myself. Looking down, there are leather binds over my hands, and legs. Hrm...that explains it why I can't move. There's the feeling of being watched developing in my mind. I glance around in the darkness, diverting my view from the table to see if I can find a shadow of someone or something. Just darkness outside of the table and myself. And then, just as I was about to try something, a voice breaks the silence in the room, coming from across of me in the darkness.
"Gonna ask nicely before this escalates...where are the documents?" the voice speaks in a scruffy male tone. Unaware of his intention, I shrug lightly, not saying a word. He then asks again, in the same tone "There were documents...the one Leo was supposed to hide, where are they?" The first thing that went through my mind, was the sound of thunder of a gunshot, breaking the silence of my last memory of him alive. I panicked, shaking my hands violently on the seat, trying to break free. The voice comes out more aggressive now "Don't bother trying! Now tell me, where are they!?".
I continue to keep my mouth shut, just focused on trying to escape these clutches. The voice continues "My brothers and sisters have told me to do great things to those who don't talk." as I hear footsteps slowly bringing the man's self closer, but around the table still in the dark. My eyes following the footsteps, trying to get the location. I make another struggle at the leather binds around my hands and feet, but again, no luck. The chair is kicked forward, my knees smacking against the side of the table itself, as I cough and grunt in pain "Argh!". The voice then speaks to the right of me "Oh, so you feel pain, that opened your damn mouth!" as a sudden smack on my right cheek is felt, my head pushed to the side opposite of the smack. I take a deep breath, still just preventing myself from speaking, just focusing on ways to get out. "Leonard goes missing, CP's raid our supply depots...where the fuck is he!? We know you're working with him too!" as he smacks me a second time on the same cheek. I just take faster breaths, just silent.
Wait, he has a piece of paper in his pocket, the one the CP's grabbed out in that plaza before they shot him. I take it those were the documents...but I doubt whatever I'd say will fix myself in this situation. I look to my left, I feel a hand reaching for mine, undoing my bind on my left hand. Before I could try to free myself, he grips my wrist with a lot of force, and slams my hand on the table. "I told you I have ways of making you talk." as a large rusty nail is seen in his hands. He places it on top of the back of mine. I try to struggle free, but he just grips my wrist tighter the more I try to move it. He then lifts up, and jams the large stake like nail into my hand, with me crying out in pain as the nail impales my hand. The ding of the nail hitting the metal table is heard after another push, as I just start breathing quickly, crying out in pain a second time. I can feel tears running down my face as I sniff, looking at my impaled hand. The voice then speaks again, this time a bit away from me to my left "I'm gonna ask you one more time...before I put you on a cross. Where are the documents?"
My hand, completely numbing at this point, starts to slowly bleed across the sides where the nail punctures. The two thick streams sliding across my skin onto the table. My right hand, still on its binds, continues to struggle free. But, like before, with no luck. I turned my head, spitting in the direction of the man's voice. Strangely, I could feel a crooked smile cross my lips. I can hear him stepping up to my right hand, beginning to undo the binds. I figure he's going to do what he did to my left hand. The instant, I saw the last part loosen, I quickly swipe my hand out, gripping the top of the nail impaling my left hand, and in one movement, ripping it out and swiping it to my right like a knife. I can hear the voice gargling as a liquid is heard coming out onto the floor beside me, but I can't see it. I can't feel my left hand, and I know it is bleeding a bit, so I try to make it fast, opening the binds from my legs, stepping up, and moving the lamp around the room to get a view of everything.
The voice, that was writhing in pain on the ground, was bleeding from the neck, a gash mark opening the cavity of it and having blood spew all over the ground. It seemed like a regular concrete storage room, and it was a wooden door blocking my escape. I didn't know how good the binds would do, but I ended up cutting up some of the binds, and wrapping it around my left hand to stop the bleeding. With the rest of energy I had left, I ran up and busted through the door like the kool-aid man from those commercials when I was young.
Opening the door to my apartment, I stumble over to one of the cabinets. Inside were some union bandages, a bit thin though, so I used all of them. By the time I was done wrapping my left hand, it looked like a boxing glove over it, so I unwrapped just a little of it, and used the nail to cut off the excess of it, and set it back in the cabinet. I kick the door shut, and just sit down on my couch, wiping my eyes. Just thinking and thinking to myself...of why Leonard had those documents.
Was he part of a crime syndicate, or a Resistance Cell in this city? Howcome he never told me, or asked me to help him at his line of work. I'd be right by his side, in anything. Maybe he was just trying to protect me and the rest of our family by not bringing us into this. Is Alyssa in on it too, was Clai- The second I begun saying that name, my heart rate basically doubled, as I feel down on my knees, taking a lot of breaths, falling over onto my back, looking at the ceiling, finding it hard to breathe. I fell unconscious that night, reliving that nightmare in my sleep.
...1 day earlier...
Revelation: Part III
Myself and Claire, walking back to my apartment, her arms are brought around my right arm, head on my shoulder as we walk. It was a week since it happened...since Leo was gone. I kept to myself for that whole week, and only now Claire found me...on the street. She immediately wanted to take me home, to talk to me, so that's where we're going.
"Gavin...you...I wanna hear you...Please...say something." she pleas, her face nuzzled into my shoulder while we walk, her eye look up to me, but I was focused on the destination we're heading to...home. We keep to ourselves up until we walk into my home...and then she moves to sit me down on the couch. I allow her to, just sitting, and staring straight at the wall. I can't really remember what was going through my mind at that time, but I remember not looking at Claire for quite some time.
She places a hand against my leg, gently caressing it "Gav I...I miss him too...but I need you to come back. Everyone misses you...we want to help you...I want to help you." as she embraces me, on the couch. I just remember sitting there...lost in my thoughts. I was truly broken in those times...I felt as if nothing was around me...but quite the opposite. I remember looking away to the only ones who cared about me that were left. And just as my eyes finally turned to meet hers...she reached up...and lips brought against mine. We shared a kiss for a moment, holding onto each other on the couch, just letting the moment stay for as long as we could, before the door started knocking.
She reverts herself back to her side of the couch, glancing at the door "I'll take it...just stay right here." as she rubs my cheek a little. It was the first time in this past week that I really smiled, and sat back. When she brought herself to the door, before she was able to open it, it gets pushed through, men in masks bursting through the room, and a gunshot erupts. Myself, so confused of the situation, freezes up, my smile being put away and now a face of concern. The men look to me, and point towards me yelling "He's the one, he's to be kept alive." as the butt of their sidearm is smacked across my face, knocking me to the ground. My eyes glance to the doorway, and there laid Claire. A pool of blood emitting from her was the last thing I saw before I lost consciousness. I could feel tears already before my eyes shut, and I only saw the darkness of sleep, unsure of what was to happen.
...2 years later...
Nowadays, thinking about them...thinking about my hometown, everything and...everyone, it just...I get a panic attack now. It's just...it was too much for someone like me at the time. I don't know what happened that day when I just had a smile across my face. I don't understand why I did that. It kinda felt instinctive, and it just...I dunno it was something I really wanted to do. I have never killed a man before him. I just want to put all of this behind me...but someone needs to know right? What if I go out and all of this is just kept silent. Kept silent...like I always had it. It's...it's hard to explain what's wrong with me. But I mean...as long as someone's willing to listen...I can try. I hope I can find someone to comfort...or listen to me...I've been alone for two years starting today. And in this new city I'm being shipped off to.

Age: 24
Everything has started over now, my life, anyone I thought I ever knew, was to be left aside for the time being. Sent to the Industrial District of City 17. There will be many new faces, many that ignore me for now. For the most part, I kinda like it that way living here. This district seems to fit me as well. Key locations to help me reminisce on the joys I had in the past. And so far no keys to reminisce the pains...like I said, so far...
Walking in what seems to be an old construction yard, I notice a couple of vertical ledges and balconies of unfinished buildings. I haven't scaled anything in a couple of years, and this place seems different. Though I guess if I wanna do that stuff again, I gotta practice around here. I look up on one ledge, immediately noticing a ladder above some large metal beams laying on the ground. The ledge itself was made out of concrete, about doubled myself in height. Above it just seemed to be empty up there. After looking through it enough, I thought to myself, If I can do this, and keep practicing it, I think I can get my groove of running up these things again. So naturally, I made a running start for it, taking a step on the metal beam and leaping up, trying to reach the ledge. My hands were short, and I slid back down and rolled back, coughing from dust coming out of the beams itself. I managed to scrape my left hand, but it wasn't serious. And then, I heard a little laughter from my right.
Glancing over, I saw a woman, around five and a half feet, dark hair(don't remember too many details), just standing there, observing my failure. I didn't really mind that she found it humorous, if I saw someone do what I just did I'd laugh too. She then brought herself over, assuring me that the ladder works. I admit, I got a good chuckle from that. I responded to that, explaining what I was trying to do "Yeah, I know the ladder's there...just trying to get up without it, haven't done this in a while.". She nods, replying pretty much instantly "Ah, I've been doing this my whole life, watch this." as she makes for the metal beams again, and then takes a few steps up the wall, and pulls herself up the ledge. My initial reaction was a smirk with the comment "See now you make it look easy..." as I look to the wall, and the beams at the bottom. With another running start, I take a step up the wall, and try for the ledge, but I didn't get too good of a grip with my left hand, so I slid back down. I took a few steps back again, taking one deep breath, before trying again, this time trying with both of my hands. They latched onto the ledge, but one slipped as I pulled myself up, but was able to get my feet over, and I rolled up onto the flat surface at the top, laying on my back. My hands raised up with thumbs up just sighing "Yaaaay...", realizing that I'm going to need a lot more practice to figure out how to do that decent again.
I later found out that the same woman, who I met again at a diner-bar like place, wished to be called "Em" when I asked. I pondered what it'd probably be. Emelia, Ember, or Emily, or something completely different, or something embarrassing. Wasn't going to dwell on it too much though, she wants to keep her name private, that's fine. I though, didn't really mind people knowing my full name, so informed her of it after I received her name. That was pretty much it. Hopefully I'll either meet more people willing to teach me around these new parts, or just find the rest on my own. Maybe I just needed a good "Wake-up" call to get myself back to whatever "Glory" I called my best days of my life when I was younger.
This place, I think though, has a bit more to offer me. Whether it is good or bad, I know something is going to be unique, like the other two cities before, things will happen that will change my life...hopefully for good, but expect for worse. I dunno, I guess this's where my story starts over.
// I've had a lot of fun coming up with his past adventures, and the last sequence "Reverto"(Latin word for "Go back", "Return", "Revert") was an event that actually happened on the server. One of hopefully many fun events that happen while I play on here. If you have any questions, or comments on what you think about it, I'd be glad to listen, whether good or bad criticism. Just be honest about it.\\[/i]

Re: Sanity: The Story of Gavin Hyde(COMPLETE!)
Thank you. And sadly this won't be a journal cause I've kept trying to keep a consistent RP Journal on forums for different communities for years and it has never worked for me, so I'm just doing a backstory. I don't know if I'll expand past these sequences...maybe if when I'm done, and people REALLY want to learn more.<:KARMA:> wrote:Great work!! One of the best journals/story I've ever seen. Keep it up.

Re: Sanity: The Story of Gavin Hyde(COMPLETE!)
"Liberta" Sequence has been completely written up. And I am naming the mini-memory in between all the chapters "Revelation", so it lets everyone know when that episode is continuing. With that, Part II is on "Liberta" as well as Part III will be on "Dolor" when that is complete.
EDIT: Now with little pictures for each chapter! xD

Re: Sanity: The Story of Gavin Hyde(COMPLETE!)
"Dolor" and "Revelation: Part III" now complete.
And that's where my writing stops for this story. There might not be anything added onto this for a while, long long while. Now the backstory is complete...go ahead and look over it, and let me know what you think after reading 4650 words(Yes, I ran it through Wordcounter).
