Operator Application of Duspende

Post by Duspende on Tue Apr 22, 2014 9:51 pm

Steam Name: Duspende

Steam Profile Link: http://steamcommunity.com/id/duspende

Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:15009940

1. How old are you?
19, 29/03/1995

2. How long have you been playing on the server?
An hour or two, but I rarely spend more than 20 minutes on a server, if it isn't different from the others.

3. Why do you want to be a staff member?
Because I feel I have valuable experience and skills that might help the community for the better. I am very goal-oriented and I can take criticism. I always keep cool, even in the most tense of situations and evaluate things from an objective point of view, to make sure there is no personal bias involved in the decisions I have to make. Even if it means banning one of my own friends.

4. What factions are you currently whitelisted for?
None as of right now.

5. How well known are you on the server?
Well I've chatted with some of the people. As much as I possibly could've during the time I've spent on the server, and I plan on keeping on "networking".

6. Do other players on the server like you?
Well so far I would assume I'm just a part of the new people here, but I reckon they will. But you can't please everyone, so I go for the majority.

7. Have you ever been banned?
My last ban ever was about 2 years ago.

8. Have you ever been kicked?
My last kick ever was a few months back because the server owner had a personal vendetta against me.

9. Have you ever been warned?
Not on the server, no. But I don't see it as warnings, but constructive criticism. Besides, warnings are for people that can't behave.

10. Why should we choose you as an operator?
Because I have a lot of experience as staff on servers. I've had my own roleplay servers, I'm responsible and I believe professionalism counts. I also have a resume of my RP career; http://pastebin.com/CXvQuxmx It dates back atleast 7 years, but the chronological order isn't important.

11. Have you helped anyone on the server yet?
Not that I know of. But all in due time.

12. Have you ever helped someone on the server? Give an example if so.
Not yet. But if all goes well, I will.

13. Why are you more mature than other players?
If I were to sit here and go on about how mature I am and how infantile everyone else is, that would be very much defeating the point of maturity. I'm 19 and I don't find fart jokes funny. I don't jump through hoops for girls on the internet as (unfortunately) many other would. I have a real life, but I prefer the internet. I'm a very easy-going person. I can be a smartass sometimes, but that's mostly because I believe people should be able to admit fault and learn from the experience, as I myself can admit if I have done something wrong and take well to constructive criticism.

14. Are any of your characters important?
To me, yes. My main char right now, not so much. But my other char has some serious history.

15. Are you active on the server?
I most definately will be!

16. Will you be able to be active a lot?
My timezone is GMT+1. I'll be on during European times. That means most of the day and until midnight.

17. What do you do in this situation:

Two players are arguing in OOC, one is angry because the other stole his ration before he could get a chance to pick it up. You have no clue where the players are at the moment.

I look through the console to see if the stealing party properly roleplayed his/her actions, if not I would PM him, asking him/her kindly to either A. Redo it with proper roleplay or B. Drop the ration and hand it over. Then I would follow up with asking around the staff if this player is known for any previous offenses, if not I would issue a warning/reprimand, informing him/her that such action is unacceptable on the server. If needed, I will teach him/her the basics of roleplaying. Assuming it is somebody new to roleplay. If it is a repeated offender, I would take appropriate action depending on previous offenses.

18. What do you do in these situations:

18A. A citizen is mingepunching a civil protection officer, he isn't listening to what they explain to him in LOOC, and he continues.

I'd take the citizen to a rooftop somewhere and ask him to explain himself (experience has shown that a minge unresponsive to regular players, may be responsive to authority. In this case an operator/admin). If the person does not communicate, I would kick the minge, assuming it is solely a minge there to annoy, as he/she didn't respond even in IC chat to being addressed.

18B. A citizen sneaks up on a unit while they were preoccupied, and hit the unit on the head with some sort of object. The unit is upset because the citizen did not roll. Who is right, and why?

At first glance, the Citizen would probably be in the right because the CCA was pre-occupied and he came in from behind. This is what is known as a stealth action. The CCA Unit could however argue that he/she would be able to spot the Citizen in a reflection on say a chrome object or in a window. (Asspulling puddles of water wouldn't really be legit. But it is P2L, so if the Citizen wants to roll with that, then they shoul do so.)

Then comes the question if he should roll based on the success of the attack. Is it a brick, wooden box or a lead pipe? CCA do wear metal masks, so the citizen would probably have to roll based on whether or not the attack would inflict any actual damage.

20. A group of citizen attacks an overwatch unit with no weapons whatsoever. The overwatch unit overpowers them and amputates all of them on the spot. The citizens are upset that they didn't have a chance to win, or that the overwatch unit didn't play to loose. Who is in the right and why?

The overwatch unit. You should NEVER pick a fight with an OTA unit. Not even the resistance. When facing OTA you have two options, get mowed down or run. This of course depends a lot on if you have superior manpower, firepower or traps laid out. But a group of people (resi or otherwise) would have to be atleast 6-7 people to overpower a single OTA unit. If you have firearms, 3-4 might do. But again, OTA are made for what they do. But this is where I come to a disagreement with myself, because OTA are fighting based on orders and the resistance is fighting to save themselves and humanity, which would sure be a much stronger drive, no?

But all in all, OTA would win unless the citizens/resistance members had a VERY clear advantage or edge over the OTA unit(s)

21. A citizen climbs into the City Administrator's mail cute with the help of another citizen. They're both a bit bored, and feel like messing around. What do you do?

Well if we're assuming they ragdolled and did this with proper RP, they would probably be killed by either the cogs and gears in the machinery, break their back from being cramped into such a small space or get amputated for attempting Patricide on the CCA by whoever/whatever checks the mail. (We have to assume there is some screening procedure so you can't just slip explosives to the CA).

If they didn't Roleplay it, I would reprimand them and tell them it is unacceptable. Depending on how many people are on, I would take more drastic measures. If there's a full server and they're doing it, there's really no excuse. If they're the only two and I've been AFK and came back to this, it could probably be excused because they're not ruining RP or breaking immersion for anybody. But I would of course still warn them and make sure they refrain from doing this again, as it is still unacceptable.

22. What can you offer to our community?
My many years of experience in both RP and Psychology. I would gladly help resolve internal struggles and issues as a sort of HR-Representative, aswell as make sure players with issues can come to me in complete confidentiality and talk out their issues with staff, other players or the server in general at which I would relay this information accordingly and see to the best of my abilities that the player will enjoy his stay on the server in the future.

I am also semi-skilled with Photoshop, so I could do picture editing and logos. Aswell as posing. My ragdoll posing is absolutely superb. That is the naked truth. I can provide evidence of this.

23. Do you tend to mess around a lot in LOOC chat? This includes but is not limited to the following:
"XD" "LELELELEL" "LOLVOID" "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

There's a fine line between professionalism and elitism. I will admit that I do bollocks about in LOOC when it is appropriate. I will never EVER in the middle of RP go "Fk u" ".// LOLVOID". Speaking about the lolvoiding in general, that is some of the things I despice the most. People throwing crates at somebody and going "Lolvoid" and then they run off. That is one of my petpeeves. But I do occasionally crack a circumstantial and well-timed joke in LOOC that applys to the situation. But I do not "annoy" or "troll" in LOOC. It's all about keeping the immersion and roleplay believeable.

24. Do you tend to do crazy things, and then void them right after?
Absolutely not.

25. Do you get upset if you do not get your way?
If my way seems righteous, I might get a little irritated if the other party doesn't have a valid reason other than "because I say so." Like if I RP breaking into a house and an admin noclips in and physguns me out going "lolnope". Of course this is circumstantial as I would never try to break into something locked with a CWU or CUU lock. But I don't dwell on it, and if the admin says no, no it is.

26. Will you get angry if you do something wrong, and a higher staff member corrects you?
Definately not. I can take constructive criticism and advice, as everything is a learning experience. If I believe the higher staff member is wrong, I might take it up for a civilized debate and exchange viewpoints. When I do this, it usually ends with a mutual agreement. But I also understand that a higher staff member has the final say, even if I might not like it.

27. Why do you like the server? Why is it unique to you?
I have been roleplaying for a very very long time, and it has gotten rather dull. HL2RP servers are spat out like they were on a conveyor, each one filled with more kids and e-women than the previous. All the blatant elitism and resistance circlejerking in their base where you're not allowed to go anyway because it's metagame.

As far as I can tell, this server is pretty solid. The people seem genuine, honest and have a no-bullshit attitude. It's all about mutual respect, and I feel that this server will amount to something very great because so far it seems to have gotten the very hard formula that is proper HL2RP right, and I would like nothing more than to be a part of it.

I hope it was worth the read, hopefully I'll see you around.

-Duspende

Duspende you were supposed to read the guidelines on posting an operator application. -You have to be playing on the server for a month to apply.

I'm sorry but only two hours? I see you have auth but it would be nice to actually see you rp for a longer period of time, so I and others can learn to trust you as well. I just don't find the idea comforting when not a lot of people know you and how you act. Maybe two weeks but not two hours.

I understand. You're right.

Sly775 wrote:"I rarely spend  more than 20 minutes on a server" No. ~support. Play longer.
You completely missed the point of that. Is it common behaviour here to just pick out parts of posts and use it as a basis? You took that completely out of context.

I rarely stay more than 20 minutes on a server that are like all the other HL2RP servers. But you'd have known that if you read the entire application, which I assume you didn't.

All in all, I'm gonna spend some more time on the server.

On a note; Does the owner of a store or business require you've spent ANY time at all in his store/business before you can apply for a job? It all comes down to experience.

Don't be so harsh on him, he spent time to make the app. It's clearly well written. Let him have it.
For the app I give a +SUPPORT

I am going to remain neutral.
I feel an operator should have a good relationship with the community before given such an important position.

The application itself was good though.

That doesn't apply here.
As a worker you don't have any power, unlike an operator.

As an operator you need a good reputation with most of the community or it may lead to unintentional power abuse. You also med to be well known or else it will appear as if Vortex just makes random people OPs.

In any case, workers don't hold power- they just do what the boss says.
Operators have power and serve everyone.

Either way, I will gladly give support when you have been here longer.

I admit myself to not being very loyal to servers that don't demand my loyalty.

Every other HL2RP out there is the same. You have 7 people on who are all resistance, sitting in their base, having passive RP. The streets are empty except for maybe one CCA that will spot you across the map and have you "Apply" on the wall. Then I wander around for those 20 minutes looking for people, and there's nobody. Because everyone is busy being rebel and doing their own private RP sessions in their base. Then when you show up at the base, you get shot and PK'd for "Metagame".

Then you ask in OOC "What am I supposed to do without people?" "Lol passive do you not know how to RP."

Yeah sure, I'll just RP sweeping the streets and wiping down windows for my time on the server, because that's definately what I look for in RP.

This is almost 99% of the HL2RP's out there. That's what I was referring to. I have tons of experience with HL2RP, and those are the only ones left because HL2RP has to many people just become the "standard" method of RP.

Then you have the servers where the rebels will invade the streets and gun down the CCA. Then the CCA rages because they S2K'd but the resi don't care because the Owner is resi himself and tries to rationalize the actions with some sort of logic fallacy.

Please, RP for a 1-2 weeks and then apply.

Opinion changed to: -support.

1) Have never seen you on the server.
Your Steam Account shows you are almost never on as well.

2) After today's dilemma, you have shown that YOU decide what motivates people and tell them that they are wrong. That isn't a trait an operator needs.

[This is an opinion. No arguments or discussions need started over it.]
